GTECH Awarded Five-Year Contract Extension in Georgia

WEST GREENWICH, RI, July 10, 1997

GTECH (NYSE “GTK”) announced today that the Company has been awarded a five-year contract extension with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, a GTECH customer since 1993. Under the terms of the extension, GTECH will continue to provide on-line equipment and services for the Lottery until 2003.

“Together the Georgia Lottery Corporation and GTECH have produced one of the most successful private-public partnerships – a relationship that has resulted in a lottery that is recognized as a national model,” said Guy B. Snowden, Chairman and CEO. “The Lottery’s decision to extend GTECH’s contract is indicative of the value it has placed on ensuring it receives the most comprehensive and cost-effective services. Such a sound business decision recognizes that price is only one factor in ensuring that lottery operations meet the needs of important public programs like the Georgia HOPE scholarship.”

The Lottery’s decision to extend the contract follows a recommendation by an independent consultant which concluded that continuing with GTECH was in the state’s best interest. Under the terms of the extension, GTECH agreed to reduce its rate of compensation.

The Georgia Lottery Corporation is the second GTECH customer this year to exercise the maximum contract extension options. In January, the California State Lottery Commission extended its contract with GTECH for five additional years.

Since ticket sales began, the Georgia Lottery has raised more than $1.8 billion for education programs including Head Start, HOPE scholarships, and capital outlay projects.

GTECH Corporation is the world’s leading supplier of computerized on-line lottery products and services. Currently, GTECH has contracts to supply and/or operate lottery systems for 29 U.S. customers and 51 customers outside of the United States.
