Michigan

GTECH signed a new contract to provide an on-line system and services for the Michigan Bureau of State Lottery. As previously announced, GTECH was invited to negotiate a contract with the Lottery in September 1997 as the result of a competitive bid process. The terms of the contract includes two phases — an implementation period followed by an operational period that will end January 20, 2006.

Under the terms of the agreement, GTECH — which has been providing services and equipment for the Lottery since 1988 — will replace the existing on-line system with new central system equipment, PRO:SYS(TM) software, and 6,500 Isys(TM) terminals. The Lottery may opt for an additional 1,000 terminals within the first three-years of the contract. Furthermore, GTECH will install a new lottery back office system and continue to provide system and terminal installation and maintenance, communications management, retailer training, marketing support and instant ticket support services, including distribution and warehousing and inventory management control.

GTECH to Negotiate New Contract With Michigan Bureau of State Lottery

WEST GREENWICH, RI, September 18, 1997

GTECH (NYSE “GTK”) , announced today that it will begin negotiating a contract to supply a new on-line lottery system and services for the Michigan Bureau of State Lottery. Today’s announcement follows a decision by other suppliers not to participate in the Lottery’s procurement process, leaving GTECH as the only prospective provider.

GTECH expects that if the negotiations are successful, including those relating to GTECH’s proposed price, then the RFP issued by the Lottery in May, 1997 will serve as the basis for a new, multi-year agreement.

“The Michigan Lottery has had an extremely successful year with annual sales of more than $1.65 billion,” said William Y. O’Connor, GTECH’s President and CEO. “The key to the success of the Lottery is in its ability to keep momentum each year by offering a wide variety of exciting on-line games. We are pleased with the Lottery’s decision to reaffirm its relationship with GTECH and look forward to continuing our successful partnership.”

Under the proposed agreement, GTECH will upgrade the Lottery’s existing on-line system with new central system equipment, PRO:SYS(TM) software, and Isys(TM) terminals. GTECH will also provide a variety of services including system and terminal installation and maintenance, communications management, retailer training, marketing support and instant ticket support services, including distribution and warehousing and inventory management control.

GTECH has been providing on-line services and equipment for the state of Michigan since 1988. Since ticket sales began, the Lottery has raised more than $7.4 billion for state education programs.
