GTECH Commences Operations in Washington and Arizona

29 U.S. lotteries now using GTECH’s equipment and technology

WEST GREENWICH, R.I., July 8, 1996

GTECH (NYSE “GTK”) announced today that the Company commenced on-line lottery operations in Washington State on Sunday, July 7, and in Arizona today, following the successful conversion, in both states, from a competitor’s system to GTECH’s equipment and technology. Washington and Arizona are two of 29 U.S. lottery states GTECH serves.

The Washington State Lottery, which had been supplied and operated by AWI since 1984, awarded GTECH the contract to supply and operate a new on-line system, in June, 1995. The award followed a competitive bid. More than 1,900 GTECH IsysTM terminals and 1,200 GTECH Validation Terminals are now operating across the state.

The Arizona Lottery, after terminating its contract with AWI in May, 1996, signed a one-year contract with GTECH on an emergency basis. Under the terms of the contract, GTECH agreed to re-install, operate and maintain the equipment it had supplied under its previous contract with the Lottery, including up to 2,500 terminals.

“The value of GTECH’s worldwide experience and industry knowledge is an added benefit for both the Washington and Arizona state lotteries,” said Guy B. Snowden, GTECH Chairman and CEO. “We are committed to providing excellent quality products and services, and we look forward to serving both Lotteries, their retailer and players.”
